A single cannon shot

Until November 6th, closing date of the World's Fair, the daily opening and closings of the fair were marked with a single cannon shot.It was fired from the top of the tower under the direction of Mr. Chobert, "the arquebusier" and "qualified collaborator, decorated at the World's Fair," from Lafayette Street in Paris. The cannon still exists today and is now the property of one of Gustave Eiffel's descendants.
